oddEVEN presents “The race of my life”

Race of my life

Sponsored by oddEVEN, Matthias Eigenmann will be sailing around the world for 11 months – for the thrill and against plastic pollution in the oceans. Matthias will join the clipper race, starting in Liverpool, on August 20th 2017 and finishing on July 28th 2018.

The Motivation

Matthias mission is driven by questions about the meaning of life and what makes living worth while. The following poem by Mark Twain may be the best capture of his feeling:

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
By Mark Twain

Furthermore, Matthias wanted to do something with a bigger meaning, something for the societey. That’s why he decided to join the clipper race, to raise awareness for the fight against plastic pollution in our oceans.

Who is Matthias Eigenmann

We know Matthias already for many year as a colleague and friend from our former employer Cambridge Technology Partners. About a year ago he informed us about his venture and came by to present his sponsoring concept “The Race of my Life“.

We all knew by heart that if there is a guy who has the guts, the power and the drive to do this, it would be him.

Ocean Cleanup

About 8 million tons of plastic enters the ocean yearly. At least 5.25 trillion plastic pieces are in the oceans, 1/3 of it is located in the great Pacific garbage patch. Over 1 million seabirds die every year from plastic and over 100’000 sea turtles, whales, sharks and dolphins. Plastics are found in our food chain already.

The Ocean Cleanup project’s goal is to collect plastic pieces at scale and Matthias is supporting the project with his fundraising.
