Everybody talks about the world becoming more and more digital. Obviously not meant literally that everything is becoming zeros and ones, but in the sense of everything is more and more connected through digital means (more on a new definition of digital). This offers a wide variety of new opportunities, which in turn can lead to digital disruption, where new digital business models disrupt entire markets (more on digital disruption).

To deal with the potential digital disruption, established companies need adopt strategies to become more agile as a whole. Hyper awareness, informed decision taking and ultra fast execution are the elements needed to deal with changes coming from a ever faster changing environment and new competition. Therefore being agile is becoming even more important than having a long term strategy (more on how to to deal with digital disruption, post in German).

At the same time customers expectations are increasing fueled by new and constantly improving services enabled through digital offerings. Also allowing them to compare and switch services much easier. This favors companies, which offer excellent experiences and are customer centric in their mindset, processes and tools.

To adopt the agile strategies and become customer centered a lot of change is required, especially for traditional and so far successful companies. Change in organization can’t be driven by new technology. Change has to be driven by employees (ideally plus-shaped people) who need to adopt it and to be enabled to leverage the new possibilities.

People are a key factor for companies to prosper in the digital world. Customers on the outside who need to be understood, but also the employees who enable the transformation. In case you are interested in this topic, I was speaking about why and how you need to focus more on people instead of technology at the Sitecore Digital Marketing Day in March 2017.
Here you find the article about the speech: It’s about people, not technology
